Afro Alice has interviewed this week an exquisite young Haitian woman with natural hair who lives in Turkey and use her gift to create original clothing, accessories, shoes and jewelry.  Read on as you get to know the face behind FANM MON: Sophia.

• Tell us about you.

I am a woman, mother, wife, lover of life, nature and all living things except mosquitoes. Lol

• Tell us about Fanm Mon.

Fanm Mon is a brand with a primary focus on handmade designs. The brand offers quality, one of kind products mostly. The designs are extremely original, and capture the attention of a selective few.

• Why the name FANM MON?

I wanted something organic that all Haitians would automatically understand once heard. I decided on the name because it felt right. I identify with such women/people of my culture. I was not brought up in a closed zuzufied environment. So growing up in Haiti, I had the opportunity to witness the difference between a woman who had her maids do everything for her, verse the machane promenading the streets with heavy loads on their head in order to take care of everyone, and most of the time, they are not able to take care of themselves. So at a very early age, I deeply embraced such efforts, resilience, and strength. When we talk of a Haitian woman, a Fanm Mon comes to mind for me automatically. History proves that I am right up to this day, lets take a look at Haitian art, it is not the woman going to get her hair and nails done every week that is drawn, rather the ones caring the heavy load, the farmers, those who were not educated in the class room but have been nature’s most attentive students. So Fanm Mon is my attempt to help Haitians to see the value of our people regardless of their back ground. Nomads exist all over the world and are respected for what they have to offer their countries and the world, we need to embrace our own the same.

• Tell us about your creations.

They are what they are, for who they are meant to be. This is what I love about what I make. I did take the advice of my husband and try to make some clothes that were “regular to most’ but I have decided stick to my calling, Fanm Mon is not about catering to the mass, I prefer its essence to be raw from all aspects. I am not a person who thinks, sees, and live life, like the majority of people on earth, and there are many individuals like me, who would connect to my art. I much prefer to create for myself and such people, not the majority. The designs that are liked by the mass are easy to find, so I will let mine work remain the elephant in the room!

• When and why did you return natural?

I have always been natural, entering High School, I wanted a perm so bad, but I mom was against it. When she finally said ok, she permed my hair and allowed me to burn, the feeling of my scalp melting of off my head, was enough for me. From that experience on, I have been either balding my head, or rocking my hair as is. It was not easy in the 90s, imagine in 1994, when all girls wanted to look like Aaliyah, I was walking around with no hair or a fro. Needless to say I had many bad looks, and murmurs, and even being pulled aside by some Haitians advising me, my hair style is not lady-like, lol. My aunts would try to talk me into a perm, but I remained true to myself and I think everyone accepted it after some points. I was not bothered by their dislike, and even at 14,  I was so head strong, my aunts and other neighbors accepted, but considered me the “grin gauche”.

• How did people surrounding you react to the change?

They could not understand it, but I made it clear it was their issue and not mine.

• Who were your supporters? Your hairspirations?

In 94? No one. I was my inspiration! My heart would rejoice at the sight of another natural or bald sister, but that was it. It was not so common.

• What is your current hair regimen?

I used soaps made in turkey by the nomads, and also baby shampoo (rarely). I put aside all of my vegetable/fruit peals, I have lots of aloe vera, cactus, hibiscus, and other plants/herbs that I soak in hot water, for rinse.

• What are your top 5 products to care for your hair?

None, I use only what I make, I have castor plant in my yard and make my own oil from the green and red plant. In the event I run out, the option would be natural oils from the herbal shops.

• What do you like most about being natural?

For me it is convenience, by the way, I will say I am not the type who worries much about my hair, I do not put so much time into styling it, I just let it be. I recently cut my hair, and will do a style per month, until I reach the point of balding it, hopefully by July.

• What do you think about the growing natural hair community in Haiti?

It is wonderful, it is very much needed in our culture, we need to embrace ourselves, natural beauty, and approve our beauty based on our standards and that of our ancestors!

• A message to the existing, upcoming and potential natural hair community?

To remain true to who you are, do not make temporary decisions based on what is in vogue; embrace yourselves and sisters as we naturally are. Most importantly, be beautiful and natural from within.

Afro Alice Hebdo – Anastasia Marcelin

Cette semaine, nous avons eu un entretien très intéressant avec Anastasia Marcelin, jeune haitienne talentueuse et polyvalente avec les cheveux naturels, vivant au Québec.  Bonne lecture déjà!

• Parle-moi de toi.

Je suis née et j’ai grandi en Haiti. J’ai fait des études dans le domaine dentaire. Je suis mannequin. Je fais un peu de comédie surtout les pièces de théâtre haïtiennes. J’adore motiver car je trouve que c’est important pour moi personnellement et pour les autres aussi. Je suis coiffeuse (spécialement pour les cheveux naturels) et je maquille aussi. Je travaille sur ma ligne de vêtements de sport.  J’ai une compagnie qui s’appelle EBF Nappy Family qui a aussi une page Facebook du même nom. Je chéris l’idée d’écrire un livre dans les années à venir.   Je suis aussi organisatrice de soirées et de défilés de mode dont le but est faire prendre conscience aux gens que peu importe qui on est, sa couleur de peau, sa taille et son poids,  ils ont leurs places dans la société. Je participe depuis le mois de mai à un concours en vue de devenir Miss créole Québec 2014.  Je rêve de retourner vivre en Haïti bientôt. Je suis chrétienne, cette partie de moi est très importante pour moi, car si je suis là où je suis et qui je suis grâce à Dieu.

 

• Parle-moi de ta compagnie

EBF Nappy Family a vu le jour en janvier 2012. C’est une compagnie dont l’idée a été forgée dans la prière, c’est pour cela qu’on a pris Psaumes 139 :14 comme le message de base. Ce passage décrit tellement bien le message qu’on veut véhiculer.

Quand j’ai eu l’idée, j’en ai parlé à d’autre amies, malheureusement qui ne sont plus là, mais elles ont encore leur places, ses filles ont cru en moi et sont parties à l’aventure avec moi. Il y a surtout une, d’ailleurs si je suis là où je suis c’est un peu grâce à elle, elle m’a toujours encouragée et elle le fait encore.

EBF Nappy Family c’est une famille où on organise des défilés qui a pour but la mise en valeur de l’estime de soi. Tout le monde a sa place dans cette société. Ces jours-ci, on travaille beaucoup avec le thème INTIMIDATION car on trouve que la société n’est pas assez conscient à quel point ça détruit l’être humain.

 

• Travailles-tu sur des projets ?

Oui je travaille sur des projets depuis deux ans. Un des projets que je chéris beaucoup c’est de devenir ambassadrice de l’intimidation en Haïti, et l’autre d’aller travailler là-bas car je trouve que j’ai ce besoin de dire que j’ai fait ma part dans mon pays natal.

 

• Parle-moi de Miss Créole Québec et de ta participation à cette initiative.

Quand j’avais vu l’annonce, je ne savais pas qu’est-ce que c’était, j’ai quand même rempli la fiche sans rien dire à personne car je ne croyais pas que j’allais être sélectionnée. Mais à l’intérieur de moi, il y avait une petite flamme qui me poussait et faisait en sorte que j’y crois.   L’année 2014 pour moi est une année de grâce tout ce que je vais entreprendre va être une réussite même ceux que les autres peuvent voir en échec.

Quand ils m’ont écrit pour le casting, je savais que j’allais être retenue et c’était le cas !

Miss Créole Québec si je devais le rebaptiser, je l’appellerais RETROUVER QUI TU ES.C’ est vraiment l’une des plus belles expériences professionnelles et personnelles pour moi. Après une maladie qui m’a volé 10 ans de ma vie, j’avais besoin de me reconnecter avec mon origine, avec mes valeurs et c’est ce que j’ai retrouvé dans Miss Créole Québec. Ce que j’aime encore plus ce sont les ateliers que je peux nommer d’acceptation de soi. Je suis un peu à la page de ce qui se passe pendant les autres concours de miss. Je peux dire pour de vrai Miss Créole Québec est la seule dans laquelle je me retrouve vraiment. 

Le fait qu’on reste avec les cheveux naturels, qu’on nous parle des plates, de la nature des choses que nos grands-parents nous disaient, c’est enrichissant.

 

J’avais grandement besoin de ça : de cette remise en question de l’être humain, de qui je suis, de ma place dans cette société. Les filles sont merveilleuses, pas de grippages de chignons. On se respecte c’est ça qui fait des vraies valeurs.

 

• Comment es-tu redevenue naturelle ?

J’ai toujours jonglé entre le défrisant et le naturel, mais il y a 4 ans,  j’ai décidé de retourner complètement au naturel. Parfois sans te mentir c’est très difficile car j’aime le changement mais je trouve qu’avec les cheveux naturels, j’ai encore plus de choix et surtout être naturelle m’aide à me sentir accomplie comme femme noire dans tous les sens.

 

• Parle-moi de ton nom

Mon vrai nom est Anastasia Marcelin. Mon prénom qui veut dire Résurrection, il résume tellement ma vie car je suis une survivante que la vie n’a pas fait de cadeau. Marcelin c’est le nom de famille de ma mère que je porte et je suis très fière car je viens d’une belle et grande famille.

 

• Comment tes proches ont il accueilli ton retour au naturel ?

Vu que je suis une personne qui change toujours de coiffure, cela n’a étonné personne. Je ne sais si c’est le fait que je suis coiffeuse aussi. On m’a déjà dit avec mes cheveux naturels, on dirait que j’ai eu une nouvelle naissance.

 

• Quel est ton régime capillaire actuel ?

Je n’ai pas vraiment de régime, j’ai appris à connaitre mes cheveux pour savoir que j’ai des cheveux saisonniers, j’ai appris aussi à être en harmonie avec eux. La chose qui est importante pour eux vraiment ces temps-ci c’est l’eau, les fruits et légumes. Je dois boire beaucoup d’eau, manger beaucoup de fruits et de légumes.  Etant donné que j’ai la sueur qui afflue de mon cuir chevelu, je les lave deux à trois fois par semaine.

 

• Quels étaient tes modèles lorsque tu voulais définitivement retourner au naturel ?

Mon modèle c’est une jeune femme qui allait dans la même église que moi qui s’appelle Judith, elle a sa chaine sur YouTube. L’évolution et l’épanouissement  de ses cheveux et d’elle-même m’ont ébloui.

Mes modèles sont souvent les gens autour de moi.

 

• Ton opinion sur l’affluence des femmes à revenir au naturel.

Etre naturelle n’est pas un mouvement en tant que tel, pour moi c’est plus une question d’acceptation de soi, de qui on est. Je tiens vraiment à dire un gros bravo à ces femmes qui commencent  à rejeter le mouvement Amérique moderne mais qui s’affirment en tant que femmes créoles, descendantes d’Afrique.

 

 

• Un message pour les femmes haïtiennes de la communauté ?

 

Mon message pour vous les femmes naturelles Haïtiennes c’est de continuer dans cette voie, afin de laisser cette belle richesse à la génération future. Nos parents n’ont pas pu prendre leurs places,  si Dieu nous donne assez d’intelligence pour reconquérir ce qui nous est dû, ce n’est pas pour rien.

On entend plein de mythes concernant les cheveux crépus, un qui sort tout le temps c’est que c’est difficile à coiffer. Moi je dis que c’est un mensonge on a juste eu une mauvaise éducation sur nos cheveux. Si tu es malpropre avec tes cheveux peu importe avec la permanente ou pas tu le resteras, ce qui est fabuleux avec nos cheveux c’est que c’est un art et nous en sommes l’artiste c’est à nous de savoir comment le présenter au public.

Un autre mythe est que nos cheveux ne poussent pas. il faut savoir cibler les besoins de vos cheveux. Donnez-leur beaucoup d’attention. Buvez beaucoup d’eau. Mangez bien,  Faites du sport et de la méditation.   Tout ça aide les cheveux à pousser.

FEMME HAÏTIENNE TU ES BELLE. TU ES UNE PERLE RARE SI TU VEUX VOIR ENCORE PLUS L’ÉCLAT DE TA BEAUTÉ, IL FAUT COMMENCER PAR T’ACCEPTER.

Je ne dis pas qu’il faut te négliger non, il faut prendre soin de toi en tant que FEMME.

Being natural it’s not only the new style. To me it’s the only style,and it’s the best decision a girl can take. It’s shows respect to our God who actually create us like that and confidence to our self. I’m not saying that the other girls are not beautiful or confident but I’m saying that “WE” natural women natural hair we experience freedom and nature connection. And everyone who wanna try it please take the risk it’s worth it!!! And I pray that God can helps us with that fight to show the world that with our big hair we are Proud and powerful! I discovered Onaturell through a Haitian model with natural hair I interviewed last night and subscribed to their website.  And that’s how I met the face behind the project.  This week, we interviewed Christelle Dossous, CEO of Onaturell.  Read on to get to know more about her and her iniative.

1-  Tell us about you.  Pale nou de wou.

My name is Christelle Dossous. I was born and raised in Haiti. I studied Arabic languages and forensic nursing and now I am currently a medical student. I am the owner of Onaturell  which is brand/ blog. My goal as the owner is to educate people about proper hair care and encourage them to use raw, organic products in their regimen. I have a passion for languages, animals and traveling.

2-  Tell us about your career as a medical professional.  Pale nou de karyè w nan antanke etidyan nan medsin.

I started Medical school in August 2012 in St Kitts and Nevis and this Dec 2013 I came back to Haiti to continue with my medical studies at UNDH. Medical school is not easy, it’s a lot of dedication and work but I don’t see myself doing anything else. My goal is to be a gynecologist.

I’ve been natural for 4 years now and December 2012 I did my 3^rd  and last big chop. I decided to go natural because I wanted something different at that time. I was going through a lot and I felt like I needed a change of look. I just woke up on day and went to the barber and asked him to Big chop.

Everybody around me liked it and honestly I don’t recall anybody having to say something negative about my decision to go natural.

Nobody supported me in my decision to go natural because I didn’t tell anybody until I came from the barbershop. The decision was mine. After a while a lot of my friends would tell me how much they loved my hair etc. I think now my number one supporter ever is my boyfriend and I think if I ever permed my hair he will go bananas loool. I didn’t have any hairspirations when I first went natural but now I can say that naptural85 is my hairspiration just because throughout her journey she’s only been using organic products and her results are amazing.

6-   Are you working on any project related to natural hair?  Eske w gen pwojè ki gen rapo ak cheve natirel?

Yes. Onaturell is my first project related to hair. This project is not only about natural hair .It is for all hair types. My goal is to promote healthy hair so I don’t discriminate.

 7-   Tell us about Onaturell.  Pale nou de Onaturell

Onaturell started first as a blog/website in September 2013. I had been working on the project for almost 2 years but I didn’t really know how to go about it. I was watching a lot of videos on youtube where a lot of naturalistas focus a lot on product use but not really on educating people on haircare and the science behind it. So I started doing my research, reading books, and gathering information.  Beginning of 2013, while I was still in medical school, I approach a really good friend of mine and told him about the project. He was really interested and told me that I should definitely do it.  We started working on it and in September 2013 we launch the blog/website. It was a lot of work, sleepless nights and I thank all my friends and family that were there to give me their taughts and opinion. My goal with the blog/website is to educate. Every week I try to post tips, pictures on the website/ instagram/ facebook and other information that I believe would help anybody that wanted to have a healthy journey. I also posted a list of recipes that the viewers have access to.

In November I told my boyfriend if everything works out great with Onaturell and I get positive feedbacks I can probably start selling natural products and my homemade products too. One day while I was in class he texted me and told me that if I decide to make natural products available to people in Haiti he will definitely help me out and that he believes its something that could work. With his support and my family in December I launched the store in Haiti. It is a big accomplishment, I never expected Onaturell to be what is it today. I just thank each and everyone for their amazing support and believing in what I do.

8-  What is your hair regimen? Ki woutin ou pou cheve w?

My regimen is very simple. I do a lot of protective styling mostly mini twist and I try to keep them for a week or two. I wash my hair once a month with my Onaturell Citrus mudwash and always rinse with Aloe vera Juice. I do a apple cider vinegar rinse very two weeks and I use my homemade styling cream to moisturize and seal my hair. I do 1 protein treatment every month.

Enjoy your journey as much as possible. Know that this process is an ever learning process. There will be good hair days and bad hair days. It’s just part of the journey and once you learn to accept it you will enjoy being natural. I strongly encourage my naturalistas to use organic raw ingredients in their hair. Bonjour A toute la communaute naturelle de Afro Alice! Je me réjouis de partager quelques petits secrets avec les jolis fans.

Mon nom est Marie Valérie, je suis de nature timide et réservée ce qui me rend très sélective dans le choix de mes accointances personnelles. Mère, employée a plein temps, entrepreneure, (en effet je dirige ma propre compagnie de bijoux faits main, www.bohiomania.com) je mène une vie remplie dont j’en tire une satisfaction difficile à décrire. J’aime la mode, la musique et l’internet, l’une des plus grandes et plus pratiques inventions de tous les temps à mon avis!

2-    Quand et comment es- tu redevenue naturelle?

Je le suis depuis mes 11 ans…je me rappelle bien le jour où l’un de mes cousins m’a littéralement “ratibwaze” le crane, pour reprendre l’expression de ma mère…ce fut mon premier BC (Big Chop). Depuis, j’ai eu beaucoup de mal à laisser pousser les cheveux au-delà des 3 centimètres (j’adore le ratibwaze look) pendant très longtemps, ce qui m’a valu l’affectueux sobriquet “Têt” mis pour Têt kalé”.

3-    Comment ont réagi tes proches?

Mon Dieu! Ma mère a bien piqué une crise…il lui fallait une fillette selon les normes définies de notre société. Elle s’en est guérie finalement, comprenant que son combat était vain: Je portais trop bien mon afro!

J’ai vécu une misère en grandissant. A la maison, quoiqu’on nous ait appris à ignorer les remarques négatives d’autrui, il m’était un peu difficile de m’entendre traiter de Bos Mason, Têt Bol et toutes les autres dénominations triviales et sexuelles attribuées a mon look dans la société haïtienne de l’époque.  A la longue je suis arrivée à m’en soucier moins…je suis ravie de voir  que les haïtiens sont devenus plus permissifs et tolérants de nos jours.

4-    Qui t’a supporté? Qui est/sont ton/tes hairspiration(s)?

Ma famille, mes meilleurs amis et mon copain de l’époque: Il m’appelait ‘Sa Déesse Africaine’.

5-    Travailles-tu sur des projets concernant les cheveux naturels

En effet, je compte lancer le projet Zuzu Eco Hair Creations, une ligne d’accessoires.  J’attendrai donc ma prochaine visite en Haiti pour lancer proprement le projet. En attendant, les jolies “naturalistas” peuvent parer leur beauté naturelle de mes beaux bijoux faits-main sur www.bohiomania.com, en achetant en ligne ou sur commande.

6- Quel est ton régime capillaire?

Maintenant que je laisse pousser mes cheveux, je ne jure que par mon huile de ricin (palmaskriti).

J’utilise le Nioxin shampooing et conditionner pour le lavage et me coiffe avec le V05 conditionner pour définir un peu mes boucles.

Pour le moment je porte ma coiffure protectrice pour éliminer autant que possible la manipulation, reposer mes cheveux et m’assurer un peu de repousse.

6-    Qu’est-ce que tu aimes le plus à être naturelle?

A part les avantages économiques, être naturelle garantit une étrange liberte…on se sent aussi plus belle, unique en fait! Et puis de nos jours avec des groupes de support et d’éducation, il est clair qu’on appartient à un mouvement révolutionnaire. Il fait beaucoup de bien d’en faire partie!

7-    Un message pour celles qui font partie de la communauté naturelle?

Mon message est surtout adressée aux hommes qui sont affilies a cette communauté…je les remercie de leur support et leur demande de continuer de prodiguer leur support a ces femmes qui ont choisi d’etre elles-mêmes.  Une femme ne devrait pas être jugée ni se faire rejetée pour son choix de porter sa chevelure naturelle!

I’m just a dreamer. I like to take chances, and performing under pressure keeps me going. I’m passionate about too many things, and I try to remain as positive as possible. Running around barefoot through a green field sounds like what I would really enjoy right now. Life has so many beautiful things, and I want to experience a lot of them.

2-        When and why did you return natural?  Kile epi kisa ki te few retounen natirel?

I was natural off and on. I had my first dramatic cut in high school. Back then, it wasn’t cool at all, and some people tried to make fun of me. Eventually, they got around it, and wrote nice things about it in my yearbook. I cut it again my junior year in college after a spring break trip. I’m way too adventurous to have relaxed hair. I decided I’d never get a relaxer again when I came back. I left my hair very short for a while.

At first, not everyone liked my cut. I’ve always wanted to look like my mom so she was the main reason I decided to cut it. She was fine with it, but I can hear whispers from other people.

I think everyone eventually fell in love with the look. I still get a few bad comments, but they’re from people who don’t matter. I don’t really have any hairspirations. I like my hair just like it is. After I cut it in college, I was ok with the texture, and I was ok with the length. I just always want to feel comfortable. With comfort, there’s confidence, and that’s how I’ve been since then. The person who inspired me was my mom after I saw how beautiful she looked in a photograph when she was younger. You know whose hair I’m really loving right now? Lupita Nyong’o. I mean the woman is overall just fantastic, but she’s making me want to cut my hair again!

5-       Are you working on any project related to natural hair?  Eske wap travay sou pwoje ki gen rapo ak cheve natirel?

Not really, but I’m working on many exciting things at the moment. I can hardly contain myself! You’ll find out what they are soon.

6-       What is your hair regimen?  Ki woutin ou gen pou cheve w?

My hair regimen is to condition a lot. I shampoo twice a month when I’m not wearing breads, and co-wash with conditioner other times. It’s important to retain moisture in the hair so I use different leave-ins and seal with natural oils. I’ve been loving Kreyol Essence’s Haitian castor oil and their Pomade Kreyol too.

I love the freedom and versatility. I think it adds character to who I am. I feel stronger with my little ‘fro. I almost feel like I don’t need to say much with my hair in its natural state. It’s like what you see is what you get.

je suis Phalane Gilles Césaire connu sur la toile sous le nom de Johann Gicé ou johann3naturelle. Ne vous inquiétez pas, je n’ ai pas plusieurs actes de naissance (rires), j’utilise juste mon surnom à la maison et un anagramme de mes noms de famille pour gérer mes domaines sur internet. je suis mariée et mère de deux magnifiques enfants. Je suis travailleuse sociale et je me passionne entre autres intérêts aux soins naturels pour les cheveux et la santé en général.

2- Quand et comment es-tu devenue naturelle ?

Je suis redevenue naturelle en juillet 2010 suite à une série de problèmes que me posaient mes cheveux. j’ avais des chutes à répétitions, le stress de tremblement de terre qui a secoué le pays et plein d’ autres choses n’ ont fait qu’empirer les choses. Donc après maintes tentatives de réparer les dégâts causés par la permanente et le stress (traitements capillaires, médication, tresses..), j’ai decidé de faire le grand saut en faisant mon big chop toute seule. je ne m’étais pas coupé les cheveux pour rester naturelle mais je me suis mise à aimer mes cheveux et à en prendre soin et j’ ai décidé de les garder tels que je les avais toujours eu avant la premanente.

3- Comment ont réagi tes proches ?

Dans ma famille, il y a autant de femmes avec les cheveux naturels que défrisés. je me demande meme s’il n’y a pas plus de naturelles que de défrisées? Ce qui fait que ca n’a pas beaucoup choqué mes proches sauf mon mari qui aimait plus je crois avec les cheveux permanentés. Dans mon cercle d’amis, la surprise n’ était pas vraiment de taille puisque la majorité de mes amis m’avaient connus avant la permanente.

4- Qui t’a supporté ? Quelles ont été tes hairspirations ?

Bon. je n’ai pas vraiment eu de support, sauf qu’ au début des filles qui m’entendait me plaindre de mes cheveux récalcitrants m’avaient suggéré de visionner des vidéos sur youtube qui d’après elle à connaitre et prendre soin de mes cheveux. je suis reellement reconnaissante pour cette suggestion qu’elles m’ont faite car grace à ce tuyau et ma curiosité naturelle, j’ ai découvert beaucoup sur les cheveux crépus et ces découvertes m’ ont conduites à m’accepter comme je suis et à prendre soin de mes cheveux et de moi-meme. J n’avais pas vraiment d’inspiration capillaire. Seulemnt meme avec la permanente, j’ ai toujours aimé voir Carole Demesmin et L’ancienne ministre de la culture haitienne Mme Magalie comeau Denis avec leurs magnifiques cheveux. Peut-etre que cela m’a fait comprendre que les cheveux naturels pouvaient etre aussi un atout beauté pour moi.

5-  Travailles-tu sur des projets actuellement ?

Je me donne à fond actuellement dans la construction de mon blog personnel johannaturelle.wordpress.com et à l’administration de la page facebook johann#naturelle. Ce sont des entreprises qui me tiennent vraiment à coeur car grace à elles, je peux partager un peu de tout ce que je sais avec la communauté. Je continue à prodiguer conseils et soins à celles qui en ont besoin et je prends mon temps pour mettre sur pied une série d’activité qui se concentreront sur des communautés de femmes et de filles qui n’ont pas accès à l’internet et qui ont assi besoin de connaitre ce que c’est que de prendre soin de leur personne, de leur beauté intérieure et extérieure et d’assumer leur identité.

6-  Quel est ton régime capillaire ?

j’ai un régime capillaire tout simple. Je me lave les cheveux chaque semaine avec un conditionner, pas de shampoing pour moi, je fais un bain d’huile toutes les deux semines avant le lavage, un masque hyydratant en profondeur trois fois par mois et un masque protéiné une fois par mois. Je priorise les ingrédients naturels dans ma routine capillaire et jusqu’à aujourd’hui, je suis satisfaite du résultat. Après trois annèes au naturel, j’ ai beaucoup progressé

7- Qu’est-ce-que tu aimes le plus à être naturelle ?

Je suis plus moi, plus particulière. je ne fonds pas dans la foule meme avec ma simplicité et je peux faire mille choses avec mes cheveux: Vive la versatilité des cheveux naturels!

8-  Un message pour celles qui font partie de la communauté naturelle ?

Tenez fermement votre position et défendez le choix que vous avez fait d’etre vous memes. le monde pourrait tout nous enlever sauf ce qui fait que nous sommes qui nous sommes, notre identité. Et notre identité c’ est notre histoire, notre savoir, notre culture, notre couleur, nos cheveux et tout le reste. Ne soyons pas exclusives mais partageons notre amour pour nous mêmes et les autres finiront par se retrouver comme nous avons su le faire un jour.

 Afro Alice has taken the time to interview a very remarkable figure in the Facebook haitian community, Rachel Misère.

 1- Tell me about yourself.

First of all, I am very honored to be interviewed by an awesome Fanm Vanyan like you, who is doing a great thing for the Haitian natural hair community. I am a servant of the highest God, I am simple yet I loathe mediocrity. I also like to help others and encourage them; in addition, I like to have fun and be inspired by everything and everyone. I like nature and try to be outdoors whenever I can.

 2- Tell me about Opinions des Femmes

I always had a passion to help women – Haitian women, and my people. I’ve worked with the Haitian Community. Therefore, I have seen and heard everything that is oppressing Haitian Women. I had an urge to do something about it so I ‘’ bat bouda’m, mwen leve pye’m ‘’ (dust my butt and get on my feet).  On October 5, 2012, a platform was created by me with an amazing, beautiful and strong team consisted of 5 Haitian women, hence Opinions de Femmes.  It is a community for Haitian Women to come and feel at home, it’s like a virtual home for my Fanm lakay to express themselves fully, to learn, to cry, to ASK for help, to enjoy life, to educate, to advocate, to encourage, finding solution, to support each other and learn new ways to live life to the fullest.

 3- Any upcoming project for Opinions des Femmes?

Yes, Opinions de Femmes is a ‘’ Lakou’’ in progress. We are still crawling yet we have BIG dreams for the future. We are working on creating a logo and a magazine; we hope to get an office based in Haiti and abroad where we want to create a community for women.  The rest shall remain a surprise!!!! Stay tuned ladies.

 4- How and when did you return natural?

After my hair got damaged by a perm in March 2008, I decided right away that keeping it natural was the best decision.  I cut my hair, the ends precisely, and braided it for the following years. My mom usually sends me Minoval for my roots and always advises me to wash it with Herbal essences, which I did for a while. However, I started taking care of my natural crown in September 2010; I have discovered the natural hair community then, and was grateful.

 5- How did people surrounding you react to this change?

I had a great support system during that time and still do. My parents are a big advocate for natural hair, my sister is a great cheerleader and most of my peers are natural as well, so the reaction was pretty positive.

 6- Who is your hairspiration?

My hair inspiration is my sister, I once saw a picture she had when she was natural, I was in awe ( she’s going back to natural now, thank God, probably after my constant winning for her to go back, 🙂 ),  she had a mega afro and that’s what I am striving for, a big and healthy afro.  My other hair inspiration is Jenell from Kinky Curly Coily Me, I’ve seen her hair grow from a TWA to shoulder length. 

 7- Who did support you?

My support was my family, close friends and the natural hair community. Other women with natural hair motivated me as well; it has become acceptable now to wear our hair freely and without judgment. Although, you are going to hear ignorant comments from ignorant individuals, when I see other natural women in the street, as soon as our eyes meet, we smile, it’s like to say ‘’I respect you ‘’ and that is an encouragement!

 8- What do you love about being natural?

Being natural gave me a boost of confidence to wear my hair the way it was created; it also encouraged me to wear more colors. It saves me money and help me embraced myself fully as a Haitian Women.  I like the fact that I can do various styles with it; I can wet it whenever and wherever, overall I like the relationship I have with my hair.

 9- What is your hair regimen?

My hair regimen consisted of washing it once a week, with a natural shampoo I purchase at Whole Foods called 365, and the great Tresemmé Naturals conditioner. Right after that I used the L.O.C (Liquid, Oil, Cream) method; I then spray my hair with oil, either Jojoba, almond or argan, afterward I seal it with the raw Shea butter.  During the week I sprayed my hair with a concoction of oil I made with water and oils; I added various oils, argan, avocado, jojoba, castor, and olive oil to keep my scalp moisturized because it gets dry often. It does wonders for my hair.

 10- What is your opinion on the natural hair revolution going on in the States and in Haiti?

My opinion is that I am more excited to see Haitian women wearing their hair natural, as you are aware, our community don’t appreciate’’ Fanm tèt grenn’’ and  I think it was a stronghold that needed to be fought and we are doing it peacefully and with class. So I encouraged any women going down that road to ignore the naysayers and wear your hair however you choose. More power to our Haitian Women. Enjoy your life ladies to the fullest and we at Opinions de femmes love you! Kenbe fèm, pa febli!

Afro Alice is back with the interviews and this week, we are pleased to introduce you a fiery hot naturalista, FB page owner, poet, entrepreneur: Rebeca Gerlus.

Tell me about yourself.

Hello, my name is Rebeca Gerlus and I am a proud Haitian woman. I live in Haiti and am the founder and Chief Executive Office of Youth & Young Adults International Agency.
Aside from running the Agency, I truly live for fashion and everything artistic especially in the hair industry. I have always loved to do my hair, to rock different styles and be out of the norm when it came to it. I love to see diversity and love to imagine looks that will create a stare.

Versatile Hairstyles

How and when did you become natural?

Since the year 2008, I had been thinking of becoming natural. Back then, I was rocking my perm but was still doing a lot of funky looks. I realize that I wasn’t really the type to always wear a blow dry; I was becoming more bored with the look and was always doing curly looks. In the year 2010, Haiti was hit with a devastating Earthquake. I flew back to the States three weeks after the quake but I wanted to come back home. I felt that God had really done something good in our lives for everyone in my family survived except our uncle who passed away. My house did not crumble, so I felt extremely blessed, because of that I wanted to give God something I cherish incredibly. I LOVED my hair; I was very attached to it so I knew it would be the ultimate sacrifice. I decided to move back to Haiti and bought a plane ticket for March, a month before my departure; I took my scissors and cut off my hair. I was wearing braids and just cut my hair from it, I than went to the barber and had him fix it for me. A few days before my departure, I again went to another barber shop and had my hair faded. Truly it was one of the BEST cut I ever did! I felt so free, so renewed, so fresh, and so happy. It was a feeling I will never forget and till this day think it was the best cut I ever did.

How did people in your surroundings react to that change?

My family were a bit shock, they knew how attached I was to my hair but they didn’t say anything because my mother, sister and cousin were already natural. They all had transitioned so perhaps it was a shock to them the no hair thing but they are so used to my “in the moment” nature.

Tell us about Versatile Hairstyles.

My page Versatile Hairstyles was created once I noticed how so many people were truly enjoying my many looks. At first, to help me on my journey, I started to watch youtube videos, I watch many people but the very first one was prettydimples01. I watched her fervently and got inspired a lot! I then started to follow other youtubers but my inspiration came from within. I just let it flow with my hair, sometimes thinking of a style, doing it on my hair, seeing something from someone and creating my own version. I don’t like to wear what others have; I can see a style from someone and create my own that is what inspiration is to me. So truly youtube has been an ENORMOUS supporter! I learn extremely from other people talents. As I was doing my styles, I kept taking pics, and sharing them on albums on my personal Facebook page. When I was on my third album, I realize that it would be better to create a page, so I thought of a name, remembered someone post underneath one of my pictures saying how my hair was so versatile, there came the name J I name the page VERSATILE HAIRSTYLES because to me, my style is not limited to the natural look, its versatile, so it comprise any & everything we can do with our hair, accentuated with the natural look.

What’s your hair regimen?

I don’t really have a regimen for my hair. I am natural but color treated, I always manage to moisturize and use products that work well with my hair and my color journey. I believe that being natural is a learning process. It is your journey with your hair, to learn what works and doesn’t, to try out different things, to be bold and just dare!

What do you love the most about your natural hair?

Natural hair can be pretty boring IF you don’t know how to style them. What I love most about Versatile Hairstyles is that it gives you a lot of choice to help with styles, lots of funk, and just many more. I love being natural! It’s the best decision I’ve made for myself when it came to fashion. I am able to do so much more, I am fortunate to know how to braid so I can pull any look. I am now experimenting with cuts and OH BOY can say no more lol! I love it love it love it love it!!!!!!!! I am really enjoying being natural, I have NEVER EVER flat iron my hair and don’t feel the need to. The most I do is blow dry to give me a blow out, big look. I live in a hot Island, we get more heat than cold so I am not going to waste my money, plus I truly don’t feel the need for it.

Any project you are working on related to natural hair?

I have MANY MANY MANY projects coming up for not only the team natural in Haiti but for the versatility! I will not spoil the surprise but can tell you all to seat tight and just wait for our upcoming activities J

A message to the natural hair community?

I will tell people to really do what is best for them and just go for it if you want to. For the newly natural hair sis, I will say to

1- Be patient with your hair

2- Never style your hair dry always make sure it’s moisturize with water therefore manageable

3- Let yourself explore and experience all your hair has to offer

4- Learn how to work with YOUR texture

5- Find products that work best with your hair

6- Don’t let any style stop you just because your hair is in its natural stage

7- Don’t change your hair because of professional environment; learn how to do professional styles

8- ENJOY the journey for it is truly amazing

Afro Alice Hebdo – Be Klasik, Be Carline

1)      Tell us about you.

This is the most difficult question ever because I do not like talking about myself, I just have too much to say (laughs). I’m a very simple, enthusiastic woman who chooses to live life free of conventions of the world and from our society. I love spirituality but I also believe that everyone is special enough that we should realize it one day to believe in ourself enough to do what we really love.

2)      Tell us about Klasik Bijoux

Klasik bijoux is my line of jewelry that I created since 2011 but for the moment this is a complete line of accessories that have been prepared by Kafedore company, it is also a love story with everything that I want to create and do with my life, nothing special but everything is special.

 3)      When and why did you return natural?

I had my hair straightened before summer 2008, but I never liked it because I judged that I never had enough long hair. I decided to do the big chop after a hairdresser sacrificed my hair with a Halle Berry cut, but this link with my hair began in 2010 when I really realized that I must live what I am as an afro woman and letting my hair alone is a great step in my well-being and self-freedom, but I respect everyone choice, this is a universal human right.

 4)      How did people surrounding you react to the change?

They liked it, my friends, my family and so one, they are always saying that big chop make me look great but I like change too much so I decided to let them grow a lillte bit this year but trust me it is not easy…I like touching my skin head ( laughs)

5)      Who were your supporters? Your hairspiration?

No hairspiration at all, when I start falling in love with my natural hair, it was more cultural than just a style; I just embrace my true self. people tend to believe that having natural hair is a continual hard work, but it is  a labor of love and I let myself go with the flow without embarrassing me or stressing me if my hair grow or not, I am comfortable with and that is what makes the story enjoyable.

 6)      Are you working on any project related to natural hair?

Yes right now I am working with Afro Alice on natural hair projects and events to be held in the near future.

 7)      What is your hair regimen?

This is the most difficult question about my natural hair; I’m still in learning stage. I have a lot of products but I always end up using the ones I love the most; my black soap that I carry with me everywhere when I travel and when I go to the beach because I can use it as a shampoo as well as shower gel, african shea butter is also a good remedy for skin, black castor oil. In general, I use products for my hair that I can also use for my skin. Like I use to say I’m not so “hairlover” but I have a beautiful love story with my hair.

 8)      What do you like most about being natural?

As I said earlier being natural for me is not only having kinky hair. If you do not feel good in your own skin with it you will give up. what I like the most about this “ I feel more pretty than ever “, it’s like having the opportunity to know  myself more and when I look in the mirror I am proud to participate in this revolution where all the companies try to adopt their products for afro hair.

 9)      A message to the existing, upcoming and potential natural hair community?

Continue the good work; having natural hair is not only about hair but more particularly about your true self. Loving your own hair is the best beautiful gift you can give to yourself, and do not forget that all the products are not for everyone, be attentive to your hair when they talk to you. We are so beautiful when we embrace our true self that I can’t imagine a woman who feels ugly just because her hair don’t have perm.

Quand et comment es- tu redevenue naturelle?

 J’ai maintenant deux ans depuis que j’ai fait mon big chop. J’ai été inspirée par Annie Emilcar (Alice Giordani) et par quelqu’un d’autre que je voyais chaque jour à l’université. J’avais décidé de tout couper car j’avais plusieurs chutes et mes cheveux n’arrivaient pas à pousser et les produits que j’utilisais, bien qu’ils étaient de très bonne qualité, ne servaient à rien.

Comment ont réagi tes proches? Qui t’a supporté?

Ma mère n’était pas d’accord au début, pour elle, les cheveux longs et lisses sont meilleurs que les cheveux naturels, mais mon père m’a supporté, il adore mes cheveux.

Travailles-tu sur des projets concernant les cheveux naturels?

Parle-nous de Ginoue Bijoux

Je faisais partie d’un groupe de jeunes femmes aux cheveux naturels et j’avais remarqué qu’elles utillisaient des accessoires hors du commun pour réhausser leur beauté. Et  l’idée m’est venuede créer des bijoux qui flatteraient leurs couronnes crépues ou bouclées.   J’ai commencé à prendre  des cours. Avec mon imagination et les instructions que j’ai reçues,  j’ai créé quelques accessoires que j’ai présenté aux jeunes femmes.  Le feedback a été très positif. C’est ainsi que j’ai comencé l’aventure de Ginoue Bijoux.  Avec GB, le client peut faire des commandes personnalisées.

Quel est ton régime capillaire?

Je viens de changer mon shampoo, avant j’utilisais les produits Suave. Maintenant,  j’utilise un shampoo fait maison, à base de shampoo neutre et d’aloe vera et de canelle. Je fais un traitement protéiné (mayonaise, jaune d’œuf, miel) et un bain d’huile chaque 2 semaines, et un lavage avec rinse chaque 2 jours. J’utilise aussi Antichute, Kuz ou Alterego pour mes cheveux chaque soir.

Qu’est-ce que tu aimes le plus à être naturelle?

Le respect et l’admiration que j’inspire aux autres…

Un message pour celles qui font partie de la communauté naturelle?

Etre naturelle, est un processus lent, dur mais tellement satisfaisant. Il faut avoir de la patience et du courage pour faire la transition et rester naturelle… Ne vous arrêtez pas à mi-chemin…

Afro Alice Hebdo – Gessica Généus, Fière de Sa Couronne Crépue

La découverte des étoiles haitiennes aux couronnes crépues continue… Aujourd’hui, Afro Alice vous présente Gessica Généus, actrice, scénariste haitienne.

 1-      Parle-nous de toi. 

Je suis encore entrain de chercher à comprendre et à savoir. Mais déjà je peux dire que je ne suis ni plus ni moins qu’une jeune femme en quête de paix intérieure, en quête de connexion avec mon identité la plus profonde.

 2-      Parle-nous de ta carrière dans le cinéma. 

J’ai commencé à faire du cinéma en Haiti à l’âge de 17. Mon premier film, Barikad,  a eu un succès considérable. J’ai ensuite enchainé avec Cousines avec lequel j’ai gagné le prix de Meilleure Actrice au BIFF (Brooklyn international film festival).  Puis, j’ai compris comprendre que ca valait la peine que je me batte pour en faire un métier. Après  Cousines,  j’ai joué dans Le Président a-t-il le sida, Les amours d’un Zombi, We love you Anne, Moloch Tropical, Toussaint Louverture et Bird people.  Aujourd’hui je suis scénariste et je fais lentement des pas vers le monde de la réalisation. Je vis un peu entre Haiti, Paris …. Et partout où le vent m’emporte.

 3-       Quand et comment es- tu redevenue naturelle? 

Cela fait déjà 8 ans que j’ai les cheveux comme la nature me les a donnes. C’est une rencontre avec une amie qui a provoqué le déclic. A l’époque,  il n’y avait pas autant de blogs et d’informations concernant les méthodes de transition et les soins pour cheveux naturels. Elle m’a montré l’un des rares sites qui existaient et il y avait une phrase extraordinaire écrite sur la page d’accueil que je n’oublierai jamais: “ While everybody’s hair goes down, my hair goes up, where the best is to be found.” J’ai  fait une première tentative qui a échoué mais le 1er décembre 2005 fut la dernière fois que mes racines furent soumises aux brûlures du défrisage.

 4-      Comment ont réagi tes proches?

Je me souviens que la première réaction de ma mère fut de me dire que j’étais affreuse …. Faut dire que ma mère a un franc parler qui va au delà de ce que l’oreille peut supporter.   Mais,  elle finit par s’y faire et même me trouver plus belle avec mon afro.  Aujourd’hui, elle est en pleine transition et je ne l’ai jamais forcé à le faire … ca a pris toute une vie pour qu’elle se décide ainsi que ma petite sœur et ma cousine… (Rire).  Je ne cherche jamais à convaincre les gens. J’estime que je n’ai pas ce droit et je sais aussi que rien ne sert de marteler l’esprit des autres à essayer de les convaincre.  Nous faisons toujours nos choix au moment où nous le souhaitons.

 5-      Qui t’a supporté?  Qui est/sont ton/tes hairspirations(s)? 

Au début, durant la période de transition, je n’avais pas de modèle.  Par contre, je demandais souvent conseil à Rania Dérose.  On ne se voit plus mais c’est une fille que j’apprécie. Elle a une page qui traite des cheveux naturels sur Facebook du nom de “Bèltèt Grenn”.  Ensuite, je peux dire que je l’ai vécu un peu dans la solitude.  C’était  beaucoup plus que juste avoir les cheveux crépus.  C’était un renouveau! Je voulais comprendre… je voulais gouter à la sensation d’être libre à l’intérieur… libre dans ma tête … dans mon âme… je voulais la paix…

 6-      Travailles-tu sur des projets concernant les cheveux naturels? 

Disons qu’en ce moment je travaille beaucoup plus sur des projets en rapport avec la crise d’identité chez les jeunes femmes.  Je n’aime pas trop le terme « crise d’identité » parce que ça sonne comme une maladie ou une anomalie. Mais, bon! Je pense que c’est ce qui explique mieux mon objectif.  Je veux proposer aux jeunes une nouvelle façon de voir, de faire, de penser.  Ensuite, ils choisiront  ce qui leur  convient.  Je ne veux que suggérer, je ne veux rien imposer à personne.

 7-      Quel est ton régime capillaire? 

En ce moment, je claudique encore quant au choix d’un régime capillaire stable. Tantôt je me lave les cheveux avec du savon noir (Alep),  tantôt avec de l’argile (Rhassoul) ou avec un savon que fait ma cousine à base d’aloe vera.  J’ai pris conscience que l’aloe est une mine d’or.   Ensuite,  je m’hydrate toujours les cheveux avec de l’eau dans lequel je mets de l’huile essentielle (jojoba, oléine de karité, huile de ricin, huile d’avocat) et bien sûr,  mon incontournable pot de beurre de karité que j’utilise pour mes cheveux et pour ma peau. Je dois t’avouer que je ne suis pas très “freak” en ce qui à trait à mes cheveux.  J’en prends soin mais sans que ca devienne une obsession.   Après tout, ce ne sont que des cheveux! Ma couronne, il est vrai … mais une reine reste une reine avec ou sans couronne (rire)

 8-      Qu’est-ce que tu aimes le plus à être naturelle? 

Que c’est un choix. La mienne. 

 9-       Un message pour celles qui font partie de la communauté naturelle? 

Notre combat va au-delà  d’avoir les cheveux naturels, elle est fondamentale!  C’est une quête … un retour à notre essence même!  C’est une affirmation de notre moi le plus profond… Et cette liberté n’a pas de prix…

Afro Alice Hebdo – Mélissa Beauvery and her Lockqueendom

When locks and words meet, when art and beauty mix, you find Mélissa Beauvery, a Haitian naturalista and word artist. 

 1- Tell me about yourself

I am a spoken word artist, potter and art/cultural activist. I am very down to earth, practical and simple. I love life, laughter and people. I create art as self-expression and therapy through this life cycle.

 2- How and when did you become natural?

In my teenage years, I always had braids or kinky twist extensions in my hair. I never really liked relaxing or doing my hair. My last relaxer was when I had to do my hair for family function and it ate one side of my hair. I was devastated. I decided to cut my hair completely and I loved how I looked.

 3- How did your surrounding react to the change?

When some people saw me without any hair they would say things like “ou te pi bèl lontan” or “ou te gen bèl cheve.” Ou konnen bote yon fanm se nan cheve l”. It dawned on me how addicted we were as a people, to a false European rendition of beauty we never would and could achieve because it is not ours. It was a very liberating to own my hair texture.

 4- Who was your support? Your hairspiration?

My brother had locks and cut his and my friend Mely has such long beautiful locks I was inspired. I love the way each lock molded. Years ago, It was five days before the New Year and I asked Mely to do small individual twists and it took two days and I have never used a comb since.

 5- Tell us about your lock journey.

Mwen pè peny. I am literally TERRIFIED of a comb. So I knew that locking it would be my best alternative to avoid the painful process of untangling my hair.  I wash and retwist once a week and sometimes once every two weeks. I do not twist them tight nor do I apply heat to my hair.  I have grown an attachment to my locks and I always remember a time period according to the length of my hair or color of my locks. It is as if my hair grows with me. It has been about four years and I love to see how we have slowly grown together.

  6- What’s your hair regimen?

A little castle soap for my scalp and hair.  I like using deep treatments weekly because the color of my hair. My favorite hair mask is the banana, egg, honey and olive oil . My hair drinks it up and has good strength and shine afterward. I like to re-twist my hair with honey wax or olive oil mixed with castor oil. I also put essential oils so my hair could smell good. As for grease, I use Indian hemp and I mix castor oil, olive oil and ginger to stimulate growth and of course some essential oils.

 7- Tell us more about your writings.

My writings are pretty much my reflections of any given time and manifestation of the world in my head. But recently, Haiti has been in heart and is the main focus of my writings due what is going on overall in Haiti and my experiences abroad.

My writings are really more in storytelling format. They don’t hold the same metrics and grammar rules of more formal poetry and prose. It really a formless story. Free.

 8- Do you have any upcoming project you are working on?

I am working on more theater centered writings such as monologues and short skits highlighting various social issues.

 9- What’s your thought about the natural hair revolution which started in the U.S and is widespread in Haiti?

I am elated that the natural hair revolution has spread in Haiti. Nothing is more POWERFUL than the hair if a black woman and what it represents for her image her heritage. The pride, acceptance and self love.

 10- Any message to the Haitian natural hair community?

Keep your crown!  You are and will always be a queen.

Afro Alice Hebdo – Un “Ti Pale” avec Rutshelle Guillaume

Aujourd’hui Afro Alice vous entraine dans le monde de Rutshelle Guillaume, une fleur soleil, une star montante du showbizz haitien qui porte ses cheveux au naturel.

1–      Parle-nous de toi. 

Je suis Rutshelle Guillaume, née à Port-au-Prince le 28 juillet. 
Je suis benjamine et la seule fille de ma famille. J’ai étudié la philosophie à l’école normale supérieure.  Ancienne professeure de grammaire et de philosophie au Nouveau Collège Bird, je travaille actuellement comme agent de protocole, attaché au Kiosque du Ministère des Haïtiens vivant à l’Étranger (MHAVE) à l’Aéroport international TOUSSAINT LOUVERTURE.  J’ai une petite fille Ruth-Warlly O. Registre.

 

2-       Quand et comment es- tu redevenue naturelle? 

 Le mot ‘’naturel’’ a toujours fait partie de la personne que je suis aujourd’hui, c’est pour dire que j’ai toujours été comme ca.

3-      Comment ont réagi tes proches?

A dire vrai, au tout début,  mes parents n’étaient pas d’accord que je devienne chanteuse.  En effet, je suis née dans une famille chrétienne,  mon papa est pasteur donc j’ai passé beaucoup de mauvais moments avec mes proches avant d’entamer cette carrière.

 4-      Qui t’a supporté?  Qui est/sont ton/tes hairspiration(s)? 

Mes deux grands frères Maxnold et Jethro ont toujours été la avec  et pour moi,  malgré tout.  J’ai, par la suite, fait la connaissance de personnes évoluant dans le domaine et qui m’ont beaucoup aidé comme:
Emeline Michel, Yole Dérose, etc…

Mes hairspirations viennent de partout, dépendant de ce que je vois et qui je rencontre.  

5-      Travailles-tu sur des projets actuellement?

Tout est naturel, je n’y fais rien de spécial…

7-      Qu’est-ce que tu aimes le plus à être naturelle? 

C’est premièrement le fait de me sentir bien dans ma peau.   J’aime être comme je suis.  Deuxièmement,  c’est que le fait d’être naturelle me rend remarquable. De mes cheveux jusqu’à la façon de m’habiller, je reste naturelle.

 8-       Un message pour celles qui font partie de la communauté naturelle? 

Restez comme vous êtes c’est le meilleur choix et encouragez d’autres à faire le même choix.
