NOURISHING HAIR MASK WITH HIBISCUS

We usually share our natural hair care recipe on our Facebook Page every Friday.  But, to accommodate a broader audience, we are sharing the recipe of the week on the blog both in Haitian Creole & English.

MAS CHOUBLAK

Ingredients you will need:
2 tablespoons of honey
1 cup of coconut milk
3 tablespoons of hibiscus powder

Preparation
Mix the hibiscus powder with the honey in a bowl. Then, add the coconut milk to the mixture. Stir well.

Application
Cleanse your hair with your sulfate free, paraben free and silicone free shampoo or cleanser. Apply the mixture all over your hair and massage it to the roots. Leave it for one hour than rinse your hair.

Results
Coconut milk moisturizes and makes your hair shine. Honey is a natural humectant and smoothens your hair. Hibiscus increases circulation in your scalp, prevents split ends, soothes the scalp, thickens and defines your hair (look at the picture). After the mask, your hair shines, is defines and manageable.

Who can use this recipe
Any transitioning or natural hair individual can use that recipe. For permed hair, use the powder with your conditioner for better results.

Where can you find hibiscus powder
If you are in Haiti, you can find it at Kay Afro Alice or at Onaturell. If you are abroad, you can look for it at any ayurveda store online or at your site.

Please make sure, the mixture as the proper consistency not to create a mess on your clothes or in your surroundings.

Don’t forget to share pictures of how you used the recipe with us.

We wish you all a nice weekend and look forward to sharing another recipe with you next Friday. For suggestions, please email us at afroalice@gmail.com.

Nou souvan tande kèk moun di alkol pa bon pou cheve, anpil blog menm sitel kom youn nan engredyan nou ta dwe veye nan pwodui n ap itilize pou cheve nou.  Epoutan, yo di ronm ak kleren bon pou cheve.  Kisa ki eksplike sa?

Gen tip Alkol

Gen twa kategori alkol: alkol ki gen chèn kout, alkol ki net ak alkol ki gen chèn long.

chromescreen3-314x160

Yo itilize yo pou bay pwodui plis konsistans, pou idrate cheve epi pou pemet luil ak dlo kapab rete ansanm nan yon pwodui (emulsifiants). Men kek egzanp bon alkol sa yo: cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, myristyl alcohol, lauryl alcohol, behenyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol.

Kèk Bwason ki gen alkol bon pou cheve

Gen bwason ki gen alkol nou renmen konsome anpil ann Ayiti ki bon pou cheve. Byè bon pou cheve paske li gen bon jan vitamin ladan ki bon pou ko nou epi pou cheve nou tou tankou vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6, B8, B9 ak fè. Alkol ki ladan an pa yon alkol endistriyel, se yon alkol ki soti nan plant.  Etandone li plen ak pwoteyin ak vitamin, li idrate cheve a, li bal fos, li fe l maleyab epi li fel grandi. Ronm ak kleren tou bon pou cheve. Yo gen sakawoz, kalsyom, mayezyom, potasyom ak fè ladan yo.  Ki byenfè yo pote pou cheve?

Byenfè Ronm ak Kleren pou cheve

Ronm ak kleren soti nan sik kann ki genyen sakawoz, kalsyom, mayezyom, vitamin B1, B2, B3, sa ki idrate, nouri epi bay cheve a fos.  Yo bon tou pou goumen kont kap nan po tet la.  Epi yo fe cheve a klere.

Koman w ka itilize yo

Ou ka itilize yo nan vaporizatè w melanje ak lot bagay pou w idrate cheve w. Ou ka fè mas pou cheve w ak yo tou.  Osinon ou ka mete yo tranpe ak lot engredyan pou w pase nan cheve w.

Yo toulede soti nan sik kann, yo toulede fet menm jan. Sel bagay kleren fet selman ann Ayiti, yo pa rafine l oswa divize diferan alkol yo, li rete nan eta orijinal la. Ronm nan fèt ann Ayiti ak nan lot peyi epi li rafine epi yo ka ajoute epis pou ki mete yon diplis nan gou a.

rhum_barbancourt-ad43

ATANSYON: Gen ronm ki fet ak etanol endistriyel.  Si w itilize l, l ap seche epi kase cheve w.

Nan jou k ap vini yo, n ap pibliye resèt swen ou ka fè ak kleren oswa ak ronm.

Pwodui Lokal Cheve M Damou

Men pwodui lokal cheve m vrèman damou:

Chanpou oswa netwayan pou cheve:

1- Digo Chanpou Revitalizan (Conditioner Shampoo) ke Ayacaona fè.  Lè m fin lave cheve m ak chanpou sa, mwen pa bezwen itilize peny pou m demele chevem, li gen bon sant toutpandan li pa two santi bon. Li fè cheve yo soup e mwen pa menm bezwen itilize rens apre.  Nan mwa k ap vini yo, mwen ap poste yon videyo ki montre jan chanpou sa fe cheve m.

Digo

2- Rhassoul Mudwash ke Onaturell fè. Li gen bon odè, li fè cheve a soup epi li boukle l.  Se sèl netwayan mwen ka fè stil wash and go avèl.

STOOOORE-rs

Benduil:

Tretman luil ak myèl pou repare cheve Akvy Naturelle fè a.  Mwen gen cheve ki sèk anpil e mwen renmen mete koulè nan cheve m. Grasa benduil sa, mwen kenbe cheve m yo ansante epi byen klere. Lè m fin fe yon kenz minit ak bone plastik nan tet mwen ak benduil sa, chevem tankou cheve tibebe.

Jèl oswa krèm pou boukle cheve:

Shingu, jèl pou defini cheve Ayacaona fè a. Li vreman bon. Yo pale de peny pou w defini cheve a men mwen pa menm bezwen peny pou sa, depi m pasel, cheve m defini poukont li.  Li nouri cheve a e leum metel , mwen pa oblije mete luil pou cheve m klere.

4820833

Lèt Kokoye ak Kabrit ke Kreyol Essence fè. Mwen pale plizyè fwa sou blog la deja sou efè pwodui sa nan cheve m.  Mwen renmen l anpil paske li revitalize cheve a, li fel klere epi li bouklel.

I am chocolaholic.  I just lovvve chocolate: the smell, the touch, the color! Sigh!  I got over the edge of my seat when I discovered I could use it on my hair too.  Let me share with you its benefits for the hair and how can you do a chocolate mask.

Benefits of chocolate:

1- It is rich in magnesium, a mineral that helps to combat hair loss

2- It can add vibrancy, shine, volume and promote healthy hair growth.

3- It contains beneficial nutrients for your hair such as protein, riboflavin, vitamin A and thiamine

4- When used frequently, it darkens the hair strands.

Chocolate Hair Mask for more softness and manageability

Mix greek yogurt with chocolate and oils like coconut oil or lavender oil.  Apply mixture to freshly wash hair, put on a plastic cap and let it sit in the hair for 45 minutes then rinse toroughly.  You will see shiny, luscious and soft curls.

The description is nothing, experience it.  This weekend is the opportunity to do so during your weekly treatment.  Enjoy

An Alternative to Shampoo: AIA Coconut Cowash Cleansing Conditioner

A lot of naturalistas don’t use shampoo in their hair regimen and find baking soda or apple cider vinegar or bentonite clay to be a better alternative.  I have recently discovered another great alternative: As I Am Coconut Wash Cleansing Conditioner.

asiam

What the company says about it:

Enjoy a Fresh New Start.
Remove Product Residue. Preserve Moisture.

You already know it and your hair can feel it! CoWashing is the way to cleanse your hair most of the time. This light no-suds conditioning cream gently removes residue including all of the things you’ve used to style and maintain your coils and curls. Now it’s time for a sparkling new beginning.

This cowash is different from any other because it contains a special blend of natural ingredients that work to promote healthy hair growth from the follicular level.

My personal review of it: 5 stars!  I LOVE it!!!

  • Great price: $8.00 for a 16 oz container
  • Great ingredients: phytosterols (great for softening and conditioning hair), coconut (conditioning, shining and moisturizing effects) and more.  No parabens, no silicons, no sulfates.
  • Great smell: it reminds me of a coconut drink or smoothie
  • Great effect: your hair is so soft that you can just finger-detangle it.  Your roots are shining clean.
  • Personal preference: I’d prefer that it be in a pump container or normal conditioner bottle.  The content is not as thick as general deep conditioners but not as thin as a conditioner.  Therefore, it sets a mess around when applying it as you can’t do that under the shower.  Well… as I said, that’s just a PERSONAL preference note.

My tutorial on how to use it in Haitian Creole:

You can purchase it online at http://www.target.com or http://www.asiamnaturally.com or if you are in the States, you can purchase it at your local beauty supply store.

Review – Kreyol Essence Haitian Chocolate Black Castor Oil & Goat & Coconut Cream & Milk

In my country, black castor oil is very used and useful.  To repeat my fellow natural hair blogger, Johann, castor oil is a miracle oil because of its benefits to the hair and to the body in general.  I have witnessed people using it and you can believe it- this oil works wonders.

However, I was never a fan of it because of its heavy odor and thickness.  Plus, remembering all the treatments my mom used to do with it  for me during my childhood made the case worse.  When I started my first hair journey in 2010, I didn’t use it at all although I would recommend it to other naturals.  During my second journey in 2013, I would use it just during my pre-poo treatments.  But, recently, I started to use it daily 🙂

I went to the O Natur’Elle 509 meetup months ago and Yvecar Momperousse, the CEO of Kreyol Essence, did a giveaway of products.  That’s how I discovered Kreyol Essence Chocolate Black castor oil!!! Waw! Jeez! My heart just skipped a bit! Chocolate, my favorite scent, flavor……mixed with thick and gross black castor oil?!  I was curious and excited to see how it would smell, feel and work on my hair.

The very next day, I co-washed my hair and did the LCO moisturizing method: Liquid-Cream-Oil using water, the Kreyol Essence Goat & Coconut Cream & Milk and the Kreyol Essence Black Castor Oil, Chocolate aroma.

♥ My wonder oil ♥

Goat & Coconut Cream Milk

Goat & Coconut Cream Milk

After co-washing my hair, I applied the Goat & Coconut Cream Milk, detangled my hair with my fingers then with a wide-tooth comb and sealed the moistured with the Chocolate aroma-black castor oil.

Immediate effect- My hair was smelling good, shining and moisturized

The Cream- The cream and milk feels like, smells like and has the same curl defining effects with Jane Carter Solution curl defining cream.  I love the fact that it is not greasy and it’s light.  It leaves no buildup (I am very generous when applying products 🙂 )1230068_10151857051457485_193143942_n

The Oil- My jam! My jam! Myyyyy jam!!! It smells good and definitely blocks the heavy odor of the black castor oil 🙂   It keeps my roots moisturized and my hair grows healthier.  I love it 🙂

I recently tried their Haitian Black Castor Oil- Lemon Aroma.  It is good too, same effects and it also blocks the castor oil’s heavy odor.

Without hesitation, I recommend these products and I will be buying them very soon 🙂 Warm Cheers to the chocolate aroma in the Haitian Black castor oil.

Jane Carter Solution Curl Defining Cream- My curls Are Looking Gorgeous

I bought this product one month ago and decided to try it last night. After washing and conditioning my hair, I applied it on very wet hair and sealed it with carrot oil. Minutes after, I could see the difference in the hair pattern. I twisted my hair and unraveled the twist in the morning. Wonderful. My twist out has never been so defined before.

I love this product because the smell is not excessive, it delivers what is promises: curls defined.  Some people criticize it because it doesn’t moisturize the hair or elongate the curls. Come on people, it is not a moisturizing cream, just a curl defining one. the manufacturer never promised to elongate or moisturize your curls). Contrary to Kinky curly curling custard, it leaves no flakes in your hair and does not feel muddy. Plus, it makes your hair shine. So far, so good. 5 stars for JCS curl defining cream.

Enough talk, see for yourself. Below my twist out  picture:

Cheers to curly and juicy twist out!!!!!!!!
